Dissolution of Singapore Parliament and Issuance of Writ of Election 2015

25 August 2015

Singapore's President Tony Tan Keng Yam has issued a proclamation dissolving Parliament on Tuesday, 25 August 2015. He has also issued a Writ of Election setting the general election's Nomination Day at Tuesday, 1 September 2015.

The Election Department, under the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), thereafter issued a media statement setting out the details of the Singapore Parliamentary General Election 2015. Polling Day will be Friday, 11 September 2015. The Cooling Off Day - the day before Polling Day, where no political campaigning is allowed - will hence be Thursday, 10 September 2015.

National Holiday on Polling Day

In accordance with Singapore law, the General Election's Polling Day shall be a national holiday. Citizens eligible to vote are required by law to do so and employers are required to allow reasonable time for electors in their employ (if working) to vote on the day.

The list of public holidays for year 2015 is thus updated to include this new holiday.
